Routine & Family Dental Care

Routine cleanings

Why do you need to come in for cleaning?

Dentist Cleaning a Patient's TeethAt Towne Square Dental, we believe prevention is the best medicine. Adults over the age of 35 lose more teeth to gum diseases than from cavities. The best way to prevent cavities and gum disease is by daily brushing and flossing and regular professional examinations and cleanings. Unfortunately, even with the most diligent home dental care, people can still develop some form of periodontal disease. Once this disease starts, professional intervention becomes necessary to prevent its progress.

Our routine dental cleaning appointments are scheduled for one hour every 6 months would include the following:

  • Review of medical history, insurance, and medications
  • Comprehensive digital x-rays
  • Oral cancer screening exam
  • Periodontal (gum) exam and cavity check
  • TMJ disease exam
  • Measuring the color of your teeth and performing a cosmetic exam
  • Very thorough and meticulous cleaning of the teeth and the areas below the gums with the gentle use of hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers.
  • Stain removal and polish.
  • Oral hygiene instructions if needed
  • Discussion regarding your specific dental health
  • Free tooth brush

Oral Cancer Screening

According to the American Cancer Society, over 30,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year, with over 7000 of these cases resulting in the death of the patient. Fortunately, oral cancer can be diagnosed with an annual cancer exam provided by Dr. Natarajan. If caught early, oral cancer can be effectively treated.

Fillings

We are a mercury free office not only because they look different our natural teeth but also because of the design of the filling, over a period of time they cause cracks on your teeth thereby ultimately weakening them.

Take Our Smile Evaluation

We offer white composite fillings. After performing a painless numbing of the tooth involved, Dr. Natarajan cleans the cavity out of the tooth. If the decay is close to the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The white filling will then be placed, shaped, and polished, giving a life like appearance to the tooth.

It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling. You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings

Dental Sealants

Dr. Natarajan focuses mainly on prevention. All the back teeth molars, on their biting surfaces has grooves which can trap food and houses bacteria. Any amount of brushing and flossing only can’t help to keep the area clean. Dental sealants is a simple procedure by which we clean these grooves, and place a protective coating so that the grooves are sealed and food will not be trapped. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed. Children and adults can benefit from dental sealants in the fight against tooth decay.
